Fiberglas

Over 25 years ago, we launched Ultex fiberglass for windows and doors. Since then, we've enhanced the formulation and performance of Ultrex to develop our most robust fiberglass to date, high-density fiberglass.

  • Ultrex Fiberglass

    What is it?

It's a robust, long-lasting, proprietary fiberglass. It's used for the exterior of Elevate products and both the interior and exterior of Essential products.

  • High-density Fiberglass

    What is it?

This is a type of fiberglass that retains many of the qualities of Ultrex but is even more durable. It's used for the exterior of Modern products. It replicates the sleek appearance, texture, and sturdiness of aluminum and steel but offers superior insulation.

Benefets of Fiberglass for Windows and Doors

Withstands tough weather conditions and climates, maintaining its condition over time

  • Requires minimal maintenance

  • Offers exceptional structural strength, ensuring windows and doors function smoothly for many years

  • Does not warp or shrink with extreme temperature fluctuations, reducing the risk of leaks, seal failures, and cracks

  • When paired with energy-efficient glass, fiberglass helps to keep indoor spaces comfortable, regardless of external weather conditions.

WHY CHOOSE FIBERGLASS WINDOWS AND DOORS

TOP-QUALITY MATERIALS

Not all composite materials are the same. The fiberglass utilized in Demed windows and doors is crafted from continuous fiberglass and thermoset plastics. This is what makes fiberglass stand out from composites made with sawdust, vinyl, and other low-quality materials.

The significant amount of continuous fiberglass in Essential, Elevate, and Modern products enhances their long-lasting performance. Due to the high glass content, fiberglass hardly expands or contracts, regardless of temperature changes. This stability helps fiberglass windows and doors resist seal failures, leaks, and stress cracks.

STRENGTH

  • Ultrex fiberglass is 8 times stronger than vinyl and 3 times stronger than vinyl/wood composites. The flexural strength of high-density fiberglass matches that of aluminum.

  • Fiberglass frames and sashes are less likely to warp or twist, helping to maintain the structural integrity of your home. Fiberglass is highly rigid, making it resistant to impacts and capable of withstanding everyday wear and tear, especially in harsh weather conditions.

  • Due to their durability, fiberglass frames and sashes are usually slimmer than other frame types but still meet structural performance standards. These sleek frames and sashes create a clean, uncluttered look with more glass and larger views.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

Ultrex and high-density fiberglass are produced using a technique called pultrusion. In this process, the material is pulled through a die, unlike extrusion where it is pushed through. The pulling action allows long, continuous glass fibers to be tightly packed and embedded in the fiberglass. This high glass fiber concentration enhances the strength of the material and helps create a smooth and long-lasting finish.

LONG-LASTING FINISH

Unlike some other composite products with rough textures, fiberglass provides a premium, smooth finish.

  • Ultrex utilizes an acrylic finish that is bonded to the fiberglass using a special process. This finish protects against fading, chalking, and maintains its gloss. It has been verified by AAMA 624, which means it has been through tough tests to simulate various challenging conditions a finish might face during the lifespan of a window or door.

  • The finish on high-density fiberglass is baked on at very high temperatures, resulting in a finish that surpasses even high-quality aluminum car paint. Currently, the high-density fiberglass finish is undergoing the AAMA 625 verification process.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FIBERGLASS AND VINYL WINDOWS

Fiberglass is a stronger material than vinyl because of its composition and the way it is made. Fiberglass is more resistant to expanding, contracting, dents, and cracks, making it a tougher option for windows and doors. It can withstand daily use better. On the other hand, vinyl struggles with extreme temperatures, leading to potential window or door weakening, water leaks, poor seals, and reduced energy efficiency.

Fiberglass, as strong as steel, is an excellent choice for durable windows and doors. It is fade-resistant and can handle high temperatures, allowing for darker color options. If you want to learn more, reach out to your dealer

WHAT IS THE COST OF FIBERGLASS WINDOWS?

The price of fiberglass windows and doors can vary based on several factors. The size of the windows is a significant factor in determining the overall cost. It's important to keep in mind that fiberglass windows and doors typically last 38 percent longer than vinyl windows.
